Helianthus strumosus is a PERENNIAL growing to 6-7ft.
This plant is closely related to Jerusalem Artichokes and is a prolific producer of delicious sunchoke tubers. The roots are easier to handle (better shape for cleaning and peeling) than Jerusalem artichokes.
It is hardy to zone 3. It is in flower from September to October.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils.
Good plant for Woodland Garden Sunny Edge; Cultivated Beds; Succeeds in most soils in a sunny position. likes a rich soil. Dislikes shade. Prefers a moist soil. Members of this genus are rarely if ever troubled by browsing deer or rabbits.
